Course Descriptions

In this session we will discuss the seven levels of awareness from the perspective of Kabbalah, astrology and the chakra system. These seven levels are fundamental to esoteric psychology. The Tree of Life diagram is the key for understanding how the same principles apply to different traditions.
We will look at three very old maps Kabbalah, astrology and the chakra system depicting the same human landscape of the body, the psyche and the spirit. These maps show the way to self-knowledge and ultimately to the discovery of our divine origin and purpose. Rebekah’s revised article on the topic is available on the Kabbalah Society’s website.
SCHEDULE: 8:00 AM EST, 1:00 PM BST

Rebekah Kenton
Rebekah started her esoteric studies in Finland in the late 1970s. After moving to London in 1987, she lived and worked with her husband Warren Kenton (Z’ev ben Shimon Halevi) as well as participating in regular kabbalistic study groups and workshops for over 30 years. Currently she works with the Kabbalah Society and KS Books Ltd. She is the author of Memoirs, Selected Poems.

Kabbalists practiced inner journeys – visualisations that follow the guidelines given by the Tree of Life and Jacob’s Ladder – for centuries. In these meditations practitioners rise up from the physical level, through the Worlds to the Divine. Images and suggestions given in the meditation refer to universal qualities. The meditator experiences these archetypes in a unique and personal manner.
In this particular meditation awareness of the breath connects us with different soul levels: Nefesh, the lower soul, Neshamah, the individual or karmic soul, Ruach, Spirit or Higher Self and Shefa, meaning Abundance, Gods outpouring Life Force and Energy. The meditation increases our ability to sense the different levels of consciousness. In a sensitive process we become quiet and subtle. Aspects of ourselves or other beings may be encountered enriching our understanding of the significance of our life.
SCHEDULE: 10:00 AM EST, 3:00 PM BST

Gila Gerzon
Gila studied with Z’ev ben Shimon Halevi since the early 1980’s and taught groups in the Netherlands for many years. She is the author of Kabbalah, Gates of Knowledge, the editor of Harvest from the Tree of Life, a festschrift dedicated to Halevi including essays written by Dutch and Belgian students, and the editor of the Dutch translation of Halevi’s The Kabbalistic Tree of Life. Her exploration of kabbalistic meditations includes a small publication, intended for Dutch students, of a commentary on Halevi’s inner journeys in their Dutch translation.

Rabbi Nilton Bonder tries to lay bare the role of possession. In his approach, possession is not seen as anything pathological. Our very existence begins with the act of taking possession of one’s body. Being in many ways is having and our life choices will always take the form of acts of possession. True possession, however, is shaped not only by what we have but also by what we do not have, posing the ongoing dilemma of possession: what to have and what not to have!
SCHEDULE: 1:00 PM EST, 6:00 PM BST

Nilton Bonder
Rabbi Nilton Bonder was trained at the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York City and lectures regularly in the United States. Born in Brazil, he is a best selling author of eighteen books in Latin America. He leads one of Brazil most influential Jewish congregations and is also active in the civil rights and ecological causes. Some of his books have been translated in Europe and Asia and five of them in the US.

Exploring the relationship between Kabbalah, musical creativity and meditation
Mohammed Nazam and Craig Pallett explore the meeting place of music, meditation and Kabbalah. Both have been students of the teachings of Z’ev ben Shimon Halevi, and have found ways of bringing Kabbalah concepts into their composing, improvising and listening.
Through conversation and musical examples, they will explore how music can become more than something we hear: it can create a space for contemplation, meditation and inner attention.
The evening will include music created for listening and meditation, as well as a discussion of how Kabbalistic concepts have influenced each musician’s creative work.
SCHEDULE: 3:00 PM EST, 8:00 PM BST
