This weekend course brings together the disciplines of Kabbalah and Psychology, combining ancient, medieval and modern knowledge and methods. LIVING THE TREE OF LIFE
Course Details:

The principles of the four levels of existence, physical, psychological, spiritual and divine are clearly and elegantly laid out in the diagram of the Kabbalistic Tree of Life and Jacob’s Ladder. As one form of the perennial teaching, it is a relevant guide for our living today.

Life experiences are the opportunities we have to internalise the teaching and make it real, especially during difficult or disturbing times. The aim of this day is to give an insight into these principles and how they relate to your life
The lectures are illustrated with slides and at the end of each session there will be time for questions and observations.

Saturday, 29 October (Jo & Kurt Browne):
10:00-11:15 We shall begin with an illustrated talk on the principles of the Tree of Life in relation to the soul’s life time from birth to death, the initiations at each stage and the reality of fate and destiny.
11:45-13:00 A guided imagery meditation based on a journey through the four worlds.
14:15- 15:30 A session in which we shall look deeper into the psyche and consider the influence of conditioning, the collective unconscious and the universal law of “what you sow you reap”.
16:00- 17:15 Questions, observations

Sunday, 30 Oct:
10:00- 11:15 “Heaven on earth” (Jo & Kurt Browne)
In this exercise of walking the Tree we seek to understand the qualities of the four worlds and how they integrate within us.
11:45- 13:00 (Magda van der Ende) In this session we shall study the sefirot as archetypes. In the world of Yezirah they represent psychological qualities. We will relate Biblical stories to the Tree in a way they connect to the psyche of the individual.
14:15- 15:30 (Magda van der Ende) Continuing on, in this part we will give special attention to some Biblical women and the sefirot. The information will be deepened by a meditation.
16:00- 17:15 (Magda van der Ende) Questions, observations

An Introduction to Kabbalah – Hertford

August 19th, 2011

Three one-day courses held in Hertford

Kabbalah is the mystical teaching that underlies the Western Judaeo-Christian tradition.  Derived from the Hebrew word ‘to receive’, it is an ancient teaching that offers a pathway to personal growth and self-knowledge.

The course is intended as a useful introduction to the ideas and practices of the Toledano Kabbalistic tradition.  It is aimed at those seeking a spiritual path, or simply interested in exploring their own spirituality.  It does not aim to provide the answer, but to address the question of why we are here, and how, through understanding our place in the universe, we might find greater purpose in our lives and, thereby, a greater sense of peace within ourselves and with the world around us.

The course is non-denominational and no previous knowledge is needed, only an open mind.  Each day will consist of a talk, discussion and a guided meditation aimed at illustrating and illuminating the theme.  There is no requirement to attend all three, but a working knowledge of Kabbalistic language and principles (covered on day one) will help in understanding the themes of days two and three.

Course outline:

Day One – Sunday 23rd October, 10am-4pm
The Way of Kabbalah
An introduction to Kabbalistic principles, the Tree of Life, Jacob’s Ladder and the esoteric origins of Judaeo-Christian  Spirituality.

 Day Two – Sunday 20th November, 10am-4pm
The Bible and the Journey of the Soul
How to approach scripture from an esoteric perspective, looking principally at the Hebrew Testament and The Gospels, but also with reference to non-Western traditions.

 Day Three – Sunday 5th February, 10am-4pm
The Kabbalistic Universe
The inner world of Kabbalistic spirituality, the angelic realms, Heaven and Hell, and the Work and Responsibilities of the Pilgrim’s Path.

The course tutor, Adam Simmonds, has been studying Kabbalah for 20 years and this is the fourth introductory course he has led.  A school teacher by profession, he has presented talks on Kabbalah in both the UK and Spain and co-directs a regular Kabbalah group at his home in Hertford.

“Adam Simmonds is both a powerful and a natural teacher with a deep and authentic understanding of Kabbalah at all levels.”
(Maggy Whitehouse, author of Total Kabbalah and The Book of Deborah)

Cost per day, including a light lunch and other refreshments is £35.

A non-refundable deposit of £10 will be required to guarantee a place, and a maximum of 10 places will be available. Concessions available, please ask.
